BuddyTV Daily Quiz: This Week In TV, August 13-19

To paraphrase SpongeBob SquarePants, "another week, another seven nickels!" And sure, while last week saw a bunch of finales -- and this week, too -- there was still a lot going on our televisions.

Life at the Big Brother house continued while werewolves killed each other on Teen Wolf. Twelve talents got another shot on America's Got Talent, while Emma (or Sutton, who?) got into some new trouble on The Lying Game. You get the idea.

So, for another week, here's another quiz on all that happened on your little screens over the past seven days. In case you need reminding, all the answers here can be found in everything that we've written here on BuddyTV in the past (guess!) seven days. Wait, you knew already? Lovely!

Prison service to investigate inmates painting Jacqui Smith house

An investigation has been launched into how two prisoners on day-release were allowed to do painting work for former home secretary Jacqui Smith. Smith made a contribution to charity after the offenders spent a few hours decorating a room at her home in Redditch while they were on release from jail working in the community. The former MP said she would be happy to answer any questions about the incident and that the two men came to her house because they did not have any other work to do.

Speaking on London radio station LBC, where she was hosting a programme as a stand-in for regular presenter James O'Brien she also accused the Sun, which broke the story, of putting the "very worst spin" on what happened. The Sun said Smith had hired the two prisoners to paint her "luxury" home when they should have been cleaning up the local community.

This was confirmed on Wednesday by the prison service. A spokesman said the two inmates, from HMP Hewell in Redditch, were meant to work to "help the whole community" as part of a scheme run by a local charity, the Batchley support group. He said: "The decision to provide prisoners for this work was taken without consultation with HMP Hewell or the Ministry of Justice and was a mistake. "Offenders should work on projects which help the whole community. The scheme has been suspended while a full internal investigation is undertaken."

Dominique Strauss-Kahn will fly home to a France divided over his reputation

The spectacular collapse of the rape case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn has prompted a bout of soul-searching in France amid fresh debate over how clean the former presidential hopeful has emerged from his American "ordeal".

As Strauss-Kahn prepared to collect his passport from police in New York, friends and supporters declared him blanchi – literally whitened – cleared and vindicated after accusations that had blackened his name and stymied his attempt to become the next president of France in 2012. Others, even those from the traditional left, believe that the Socialists' one-time "providential man" will fly home less blanchi and more a grubby shade of grey.

Commentators veered between outrage at DSK being paraded in handcuffs after his arrest in May and admiration for the US justice system dealing with the case rapidly and letting him go. Philosopher Daniel Salvatore Schiffer, a Strauss-Kahn defender, described the court's decision as "courageous and honest" and said it had allowed the emergence of "if not the truth, which we will probably never know … but at least impartiality."

But Le Monde pointed out that Strauss-Kahn, 62, who was forced to quit as head of the International Monetary Fund, had not been "totally whitened" as the case had been dropped because of a lack of witnesses or proof that the "hasty sexual relations" between Strauss-Kahn and chambermaid Nafissatou Diallo were forced or consensual.

On the eve of the Socialist party's summer conference in the seaside town of La Rochelle, where six rival candidates for the presidential nomination will gather this weekend, some felt the return of the left's former champion was an unwelcome distraction. Most of his supporters are now backing other candidates, including frontrunners François Hollande and Martine Aubry. Hollande has spoken of Strauss-Kahn's economic expertise being "useful to his country" but nobody is seriously suggesting the rules of the primary election be altered to allow him to stand.

Jesse Spencer on the Next Dean of Medicine

During the TCA Press Tour FOX party, I asked Jesse Spencer for a minute of his time and he graciously gave me eight. We spoke about the future of Chase, who would be the next Dean of Medicine at PPTH and what Spencer would like to do after the end of House.

Spencer started the interview by telling me he was basically sworn to secrecy about any plot lines of the show, so I did the best I could trying to get him to slip up. I first asked him what he'd like to see happen for Chase, especially if this was the last season of House. He said he'd love for Chase to get caught for what he did to Diabola (remember when he killed the African dictator?), but then to be a fugitive of the law and drive off to Mexico.

I asked if Thirteen might accompany him across the border, but Spencer said it was "never going to happen." Would Spencer ever want to see his character back together with Jennifer Morrison's Cameron? He's not opposed to the idea of her coming back, but knows it's practically impossible because of logistics since Morrison has a new show (Once Upon a Time) on ABC. He would enjoy seeing some more maturity from his character and has noticed growth in Chase.

Now, for the big news! When I asked Spencer if he was going to be the new Dean of Medicine, he confirmed that it would in fact, be him! And then he retracted by saying, "Well, you know, I'd like to be the new Dean." I let Spencer know jokingly that he effectively killed the headline of my article, and then he quipped, "Well, you know, 'like' is code..." I don't know about how anyone else feels, but Spencer is my first choice for Dean of Medicine.

House and him respect one another, Foreman already had a shot and screwed it up, and if Wilson gets the position, well, I don't even want to go there. So you heard it here first, Chase might be Dean. You're welcome! When I asked Spencer about Lisa Edelstein's departure, he mused, "It's really sad, we lost Jen a couple years ago...you know it's sad when someone's there from the original cast and we're all in it together. Great cast, always gotten along very well, we actually like each other, which is apparently rare. Lisa's great, really sad to lose her.

She'll do really well. She's very talented...It's a sad departure, but she'll be fine." I mentioned to Spencer that according to every other television cast that has ever spoken about their family-like rapport, it doesn't seem so rare. He laughed, and said "I know better."

And what about his favorite risky hobby of surfing? When I asked him if he'd ever been injured, he pulled up the back of his shirt to show me a gnarly scar. Spencer said that he can't be stopped now that he's rediscovered his love of the sport.

After I asked Spencer about the ending, he said, "You know, I've been wondering the same thing. Um, it will probably be a bittersweet ending. It's not going to end with House being cured of his issues...going to be dramatic and something big will happen."

For more on House season 8 check out our interview with EP David Shore>> So what's next for Spencer? What's going to happen when House ends? Spencer wants to work in Australia again someday and would love to do film or another TV series. He especially loves the consistency of a television series. I suggested something on HBO and Spencer was quick to say yes. So in other words, look for him anywhere and everywhere once House ends.

USA Sets the Return Dates for 'Covert Affairs', 'Burn Notice' and More

If your summer has been dominated by USA shows, you're likely going into a bit of a mourning period right now. White Collar and Covert Affairs have already ended their summer runs, and Burn Notice, Suits and the rest will soon follow along into hiatus oblivion.

But don't get too upset -- USA has already announced the dates for some of the shows to return in the fall. Covert Affairs, Burn Notice and Psych will all air new episodes in 2011. Psych, which has been long-absent from our televisions, is the first USA show to return this fall. The sixth season of the show will debut on Wednesday, October 12 at 10pm.

Along with the show's standard crime-fighting antics, this season will feature an impressive list of guest stars, especially for those viewers obsessed with '80s and '90s nostalgia. Among those appearing are Kristy Swanson, Corey Feldman, Malcolm McDowell, Joey McIntyre, Molly Ringwald, Danny Glover and Wade Boggs. This is, of course, in addition to one William Shatner, who will be on hand to play Juliet's father. Covert Affairs is the next USA show to return.

The second half of the show's second season will debut on Tuesday, November 1 at 10pm. Presumably, Covert Affairs will pick up with the characters where we last saw them. Thus, we can expect Annie to be dealing with the angst of moving and a newly-disapproving sister, Jai to be pondering his career path, and Auggie to be chasing after lots of off-screen women (as usual).

The final fall return on USA is Burn Notice, which will finish up its fifth season starting on Thursday, November 3 at 10pm. Although the show has not yet ended its summer run (new episodes will air until September 8), the standard cliffhanger nature of Burn Notice finales will make its close return a bonus. Those viewers holding out for more episodes of White Collar, unfortunately, have a bit more of a wait before the show returns.

TVLine reports that new episodes are not expected before January 2012. The scary fate of Elizabeth Burke -- and the even more important fate of the Peter-Neal relationship -- will have to wait until then for resolution. Although there is no official word yet on their return, newer programs like Suits will likely not return until next summer. Set a reminder for when your favorite show returns this fall with the NEW BuddyTV Guide App for iPhone. You'll never miss another episode, get recommendations and surf Netflix. Coming soon to Android.

'White Collar' Recap: Best of 'Countdown'

Tonight's season finale of White Collar, we find out if Peter finds out that Neil and Moz took the stolen treasure including a rare Degas painting. Does Neil stay or does he go?

Top Five Moments:

5. The FBI knows about the Degas! Peter's buddy Kramer, a FBI agent with a lot of knowledge on impressionist painting, comes to town to help Peter with the Degas case.

4. Why is there an hourglass on my kitchen table? The hourglass represents the forty eight hours Moz gives Neil to make up his mind about cutting out of town with the treasure or staying back and continuing to work with the FBI, treasure-less. Are you giving me an ultimatum, asks Neil to Moz and yes, indeed he is. It's time for Neil to choose a side.

3. You're awfully close to the man you think stole a Degas? Peter admits to Kramer that he needs an outside perspective on the Degas case. Kramer tells Peter that once a con, always a con and guys like Neil are "hardwired in their brains." Kramer believes that Peter is going to find arresting Neil hard because he's "not just slapping cuffs on a criminal, you are taking down a friend."

2. That's Kramer talking. He's the devil on your shoulder: Neil tells Peter that Kramer has gotten into his mind and Peter asks Neil if he remembers what he first said when Peter accused him of stealing the treasure. "Prove it," Peter reminds Neil. And he tells him that's exactly what he is going to do.

1. Neil really did? Peter asks Elizabeth why she is convinced that Neil did it and she tells him last time Peter was this obsessed about Neil was right before he caught him. In a move that rivals Ocean's Eleven (Or Twelve. Or Thirteen. Actually, the move is better than Thirteen.), Neil replaces the Degas so it looks like he and Moz weren't involved and tells Moz that he isn't going anywhere. Unfortunately, his actions have dire consequences to Elizabeth.

India Welcomes US Suspension Of Aid To Pakistan

america-pakistan
India Monday against the U.S. decision to suspend abut $ 800 million in military aid to Pakistan, but also stressed its commitment to normalize relations with neighboring countries, he continued dialogue with just a few months ago.

"As to the special circumstances of India and Pakistan, and how India has consistently taken the view that it is not recommended that this area was heavily armed by the United States to disrupt the balance in the region, to the extent that India wants this step," Secretary of State SM Krishna said reporters.

The decision is seen here to prove India's stand that he has repeatedly expressed fears that the aid was granted U.S. and other Western countries, Pakistan has used the last of its military infrastructure to support targeted to New Delhi.

Help withheld more than a third $ 2 billion a year, the U.S. security assistance to Pakistan. This includes approximately $ 300 million to cover the implementation of more than 100,000 Pakistani troops along the border with Afghanistan, as well as military aid and training, New York Times.

The same breath, India, but underlined its commitment to normalize relations with Pakistan, fell to its lowest level since Nov 26 to 29, 2008 terrorist attacks perpetrated in Mumbai 10 Pakistani nationals.

"At the same time the United States consider the fact that we are working very dedicated way to normalize relations with Pakistan in its efforts to reduce the deficit, and trust," he said.

Krishna said that he waited for his Pakistani counterpart to visit India at the end of this month to the dialogue process. Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan are expected to hold talks about his July 26 to 27 carry the dialogue process, which was reopened in February after a break of two years after the terrorist attack in Mumbai.

Krishna Monday condemned the suicide attack in Pakistan. "If there is an attack by terrorists or terrorist-oriented organizations, condemn the few trials to India. India condemns terrorist attack in the world," he said.

At least six people including three policemen, were killed and 19 wounded in suicide blast Monday in Pakistan's turbulent political gathering Northwest region.
