LG produces Optimus 3D The first 3D smartphone

LG Optimus 3D

The 3D gimmick works better than expected, but for a phone that promised world-beating performance, we did see more lag than we'd have liked, and it has average battery life to boot.

Rating: 7.5/10

The Good: 3D elements are better than we expected • Screen is bright with good viewing angles • Camera takes nice photos.

The Bad: Its design won't excite • Frequent minor processing and animation lag • 3D viewing angle is extremely acute.

It was not so long ago that the idea of a smart phone weighs 200g and measures only 2 cm thick, it seemed reasonable, there was a mini-computer. We remember a colleague at the time appeared on the Nokia Communicator, N90, measuring the weight of the hand while saying that he preferred the phone, which felt "it could kill a person." He no longer works at CNET.

LG 3D Optimus is not as thick or heavy. His depth of 12mm is equal to a competitor of HTC phones, but the 168g weight is much larger, and if you match it with the weight of a 4.3-inch 3D display, it seems a large pipe.

The 4.3-inch screen stretches across the face of the device a thin strip of touch sensitive buttons at the bottom of the screen. There are micro and micro-USB cable to the HDMI port on the left side of the unit - of those pesky plastic locks only with the help of LG remains - and a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack on top.

Those who are familiar with LG phones with fashion-forward past does not recognize the serious-looking 3D Optimus. It is a colorful trim, ALA New LG Chocolate, and lashings of stainless steel, as we have seen many LG phones in the past.

Instead, 3D Optimus surrounded by impressive yet dull gray color, soft, faux-metal plastic strip running along the top and face of phone. The result is a polished appearance, but it is anything but brilliant.

3D is a decent quality LCD screen that shows some nice color and relatively deep blacks. As with the previous LG smartphone releases in 2011, favors the white over the black screen comes up trumps with the Web browser in this equation.

One interesting thing I noticed at the time of our review is that the screen is almost invisible when viewed through polarizing sunglasses and a filter.

We are not sure if this has anything to do with the content of the 3D view, but it is certainly a shame for anyone who works outdoors and is serving a decent pair of shades
