Grape seed extract to fight Alzheimer's

Grapes
The new study showed that the natural antioxidant polyphenols in grape seeds may prevent or delay the development of Alzheimer's disease.

Giulio Maria Net Pasi,MD&PhD,Saunders Family Professor of Neurology and Professor of Psychiatry and Geriatrics and Adult Development at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, led the research.

This is the first study to assess the ability of polyphenols from grapes, to avoid the generation of a particular form of beta-amyloid (Ass) peptide, a substance known to cause neurotoxicity in the brain long associated with Alzheimer's disease.

In collaboration with the University of Minnesota team led by Dr. Karen Hsiao Ashe Net Pasi and his colleagues administered grape seed polyphenolic extracts from mice genetically determined to develop a memory deficit in the ass, and similar neurotoxins found in Alzheimer's disease.

They found that the brain content * 56 Ass Ass a special form of pre-mixed with the promotion of Alzheimer's disease, memory loss, was significantly reduced after treatment.

As the natural polyphenols are also commonly available dietary supplements and side effects are negligible, even after prolonged treatment, it is important to find a new promise as a prevention method or treatment, and translational studies examined patients with Alzheimer's disease, concluded Dr. Pasi Net.
