Aruna Roy Defends the NREGA

Aruna Roy, member of the Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council on Saturday hit out at the ongoing protest by Team Anna and said that nobody should be allowed to hijack democratic institutions. 

Addressing media persons at Press Club here said Roy social activist Anna Hazare is infinitely fast to get civil society version of Lokpal passed the Bill was wrong. She said Hazare was “ill-advised, and it is wrong to undermine democratic institutions” 

 “We will present our views before the standing committees. We hope that the negotiations will result in a good Lokpal Bill,” says Roy. Her comments came as the Standing Committee was published advertisements in newspapers Saturday seeking public input on the government’s draft 

Lokpal Bill presented in Parliament. That a comprehensive consultation was needed before the anti-graft law takes the form, says Roy NAC had taken Anna supporters Shanti Bhushan, Prashant Bhushan and Arvind Kejriwal of its consultations on the draft Lokpal Bill.
